What are hemp hearts?

Maybe you have seen these on the menu at a hip juice bar or natural foods store and wondered why eat hemp hearts?

These small, nutty flavored seeds are an excellent way to make your food more nutrient dense. Hemp hearts pack:

  • 10g protein

  • 12g omega 3 and 6

  • 45% RDA Magnesium

  • 20% RDA Iron (* all per 3Tbsp serving)

Add them to smoothie bowls, oatmeal, salads, yogurt, or try the fun nourishing treat below.

  • 1 c maple syrup

  • 1 c rice syrup ( I like Lundberg - have struggled to find in grocery stores recently but can find it at Amazon)

  • 1 c your fave natural nut butter

  • 1 c vegan dark chocolate chips

  • 1/4 c coconut oil

  • 9 c organic crispy rice cereal

  • 1/2 c hemp hearts

  • 1/4 c cacao nibs

  • 1/2 t Himalayan salt

1) In med saucepan , combine maple syrup, rice syrup, nut butter, chocolate chips and coconut oil. Heat over low heat for five minutes stirring constantly until everything is melted and combined.

2) In a large bowl combine the crispy rice cereal, hemp hearts, cacao nibs and salt.

3) Gradually add the melted ingredients to the bowl with the dry ingredients and stir to combine.

4) Grease a 9x11 pan, pour in mixture and evenly spread it over the pan. Gently press until the mixture is firmly packed.

5) Place in the fridge to set and cool for 1 hour.

6) Cut into 2-inch squares and store in airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks.
