Easy access snacks

Let’s be honest when we are hungry, bored, or in a rush access is key. What and where we have food in our pantry and fridge is a big driver of what will grab in that moment of hunger. What does your pantry look like? Having nutrient rich foods visible and easy to grab makes choosing them a lot more likely! We eat with our eyes and seeing good food choices initially can help us make better choices.

Here are a few tips to help your household:

  • Use glass containers that allow you to see what your options are (many places allow you to buy in bulk and then transfer to your own glass containers which also cuts down on packaging)

  • Keep healthy nourishing snacks at eye level and easy to reach spots

  • Put more indulgent sweet or salt snacks out of view and make it more work to access them

  • Wash fruit or veggies and put it in a bowl or clear container for on the go grabbing

  • Stock salsa, hummus, guacamole to make a serving of chips more nutrient dense

  • Nuts, dried fruit, pretzels, popcorn are good options
